Rightmove Real Estate is behind the proposals for the land in St Anns Well Road which will see a building constructed rising from between two and seven storeys.
Nottingham City Council's planning committee met virtually on Wednesday 20 January to vote on the application.
A total of 356 bedrooms will now be created comprising 54 studios and 121 cluster flats.
The scheme will also include a laundry, gym and a cinema room.
A document submitted to the council on behalf of the applicant said: 'The site is located in the Eastside Regeneration Area and is bounded by St Ann’s Well Road and Curzon Place to the east and west.
'St Ann’s Well Road defines the edge of the Sneinton Market Conservation Zone which the site sits outside of and the boundary of the tall buildings zone sits close to the site.
'The site was occupied by a disused bingo hall fronting St Ann’s Well Road which sat on the southern site boundary with associated parking to the north.

'The proposal is to redevelop the site with a student accommodation scheme.
'The site is ideally located for the proposed massing to act as a transition between the 14-storey Litmus building located to the south of the site down to the predominately five-storey developments to the north east with the Liberty Point towers to the east adding another contextual dimension.
'The resulting massing is nine storeys facing St Ann’s Well Road and Liberty Point and tiers down to four storeys adjacent to the Noƫngham Central Mosque.
